Global Competition Review ranks Mayer Brown among world’s leading competition law firms in four jurisdictions

23 December 2013

Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, is ranked in four jurisdictions in the 2014 edition of the GCR 100, an annual guide to the world’s leading competition law practices that is published by Global Competition Review:

• An “Elite” ranking in Illinois;
• A “Highly Recommended” ranking in the United States for Government Antitrust Investigations; and
• “Recommended” rankings in France and New York.

Commenting on Mayer Brown’s Elite ranking in Chicago, the publication said, “The litigation powerhouse is advising on a significant proportion of cases from the growing list of multidistrict antitrust class actions stationed in the northern district...The firm has significant merger control capabilities too. Over the years, it has handled some of the largest and most contentious transactions in the US.”

Compiled by the staff of Global Competition Review, the GCR 100 analyzes more than 300 competition law firms in 47 jurisdictions across the globe.

Bob Bloch, leader of Mayer Brown’s global Antitrust & Competition practice, said, “We are very pleased to have received this recognition and are very proud of our practice. We work hard at bringing the group’s global expertise in many industries to bear in solving local and international problems confronted by our clients to help them achieve their business objectives.”

Mayer Brown’s Antitrust & Competition practice comprises more than 60 lawyers who advise on the full range of antitrust and competition issues, including:

• Mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, collaborations, distribution & licensing
• Government criminal and civil non-merger investigations, particularly cartels and abuse of dominance; and
• Litigation, including trial and appellate matters.

The group includes former high-ranking US Justice Department officials, a former US state attorney general and many highly-regarded members of the US and European antitrust bar. Mayer Brown’s global network of counseling resources and its ability to offer a multinational perspective enable the firm to provide integrated advice, which is an important advantage in dealing with the increased cooperation between competition authorities around the world.
