Ben prides himself on working a wide and diverse group of clients, ranging from sponsors and entrepreneurs in the hospitality and operational real estate industries to large institutional investors, such as private equity funds, life insurance companies, REITs, family offices/high-net worth individuals, and pension funds.

Ben has a detailed understanding of the real estate operations and critical business functions that impact the ownership and operation of hotels and resorts, senior housing/assisted living, sports facilities and other similar real estate investments that are coupled with an operating business.

He has negotiated dozens of hotel management agreements, as well as over 200 hotel management agreements on behalf of hotel managers. He is well-positioned to advise the key players in the hospitality and leisure ecosystem, given his work for both owners/investors and operators. He has worked on all types of hotels and resorts, ranging from urban-luxury with branded residential to outdoor-oriented facilities to select service projects. In addition, he has handled numerous transactions involving labor unions and collective bargaining agreements, restaurant and bar operating agreements, and celebrity chef affiliations.

Ben has also handled various cross-border transactions, including the negotiations of hotel management agreements and franchise agreements for clients in Latin American, Europe and the United Kingdom. In addition to his work overseas, he has worked with numerous foreign investors on inbound US investments.

• DiamondRock Hospitality Company in the acquisition of the Henderson Beach resort in Destin, Florida and Cavallo Point: The Lodge at the Golden Gate; the acquisition was structured as an UPREIT, together with a long-term leasehold interest in the luxury resort
• A client in connection with the acquisition of a 25% interest in a UnRivaled, a youth-sports enterprise focused on sports tournaments and camps across the United States for baseball, soccer, football and lacrosse.
• A client in connection with the acquisition, financing and branding of hotels in Santa Cruz, CA, Bend, OR and Sedona, AZ.
• An investment management advisor client in connection with the sale of the Muse Hotel in NYC and the sale of the Hamilton Hotel in Washington DC.
• A pension fund advisor client in connection with the acquisition, management and franchising of the AlltraPlaya Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic from Playa Resorts, Inc.
• HEI Hotels in connection with the negotiation of various hotel management agreements, acquisitions, sales and dispositions, including:
  • a joint venture agreement and hotel management agreement with a private equity fund in connection with the acquisition, financing, ownership, operation and branding of the Renaissance Meadowlands;
  • the sale of the Sheraton Pentagon City to a foreign investor;
  • a new hotel management agreement and related food and beverage agreements for the West Hollywood Sun Rose luxury hotel;
  • hotel management and related agreements for the Mayfair Hotel in Miami;
  • hotel management for the Claremont Hotel in Berkley, CA; and
  • a joint venture with a private equity fund for various Marriott branded hotels in Minneapolis and Cleveland.
• A senior housing owner/operator platform in connection with:
  • the sale of a Senior Housing Facility in Mason City, IA;
  • HUD Financings of various senior housing facilities located in Wisconsin and Minnesota;
  • the acquisition of a portfolio of six senior housing facilities located across Iowa;
  • the acquisition and financing of two senior living facilities located in Minnesota;
  • the acquisition of a portfolio of ten senior living facilities across the Midwest; and
  • the acquisition of a senior living management company for the management of more than 30 assets across the Midwest.
• Newbond Capital in connection with:
  • the acquisition, financing and the formation of a joint venture to acquire the Renaissance Times Square, as well as a franchise agreement with Marriott;
  • the sale of the Westin Tampa Waterside to a private equity fund;
  • the acquisition and financing of the Westin Tampa Aloft; and
  • the negotiation of an asset management agreement with a sovereign wealth fund to oversee a portfolio of luxury hotels in New York City and Miami.
• Quadrum Global in connection with:
  • the formation of a hotel management company and related agreements in connection with the Arlo brand;
  • the formation of a joint venture with an affiliate of a real estate investment firm for the acquisition of an 11-story building in Chicago for renovation and conversion to a 200 room independent brand hotel; and
  • the purchase of an industrial warehouse site in Brooklyn for redevelopment with multi-family units.
• Trailborn Hotels and Castle Peak Holdings in connection with:
  • the negotiation of a strategic affiliation between Trailborn Hotels and Marriott International to incorporate TrailbornHotels as part of the Marriott’s Outdoor Collection; and
  • the formation of a strategic investment platform with a family office private equity fund for the acquisition, ownership and operation of Trailborn hotels, including the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, WY.
