Edern Coënt is a senior associate in the International Arbitration practice in Mayer Brown's Singapore office.
Edern is experienced in international arbitration, acting in a variety of subject matters, including defense, shipbuilding, construction, energy, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures in proceedings seated in various cities, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, London, Paris and Geneva. He has worked on arbitration matters conducted under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board, as well as ad hoc arbitration proceedings.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Edern practised international arbitration at a leading law firm in Korea and was a Deputy Counsel at the Secretariat of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, first in Paris and then in Hong Kong, where he administered more than 300 cases conducted under the ICC Rules of Arbitration.
Edern has authored articles on international arbitration and participated in numerous international conferences, both as speaker and moderator. Edern has also lectured on international arbitration and is a regional ambassador for HK45, the young practitioners group of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.
Edern earned a Master’s Degree in Law from Paris 2 Pantheon-Assas University in 2013, an LL.M. from Cornell University Law School in 2012, and a Master’s Degree in Chinese Studies from the Ecole Normale Superieure in 2011. He is admitted to the New York bar.
