John R. Ablan

John Ablan has extensive experience advising both corporate and financial institutions in a broad range of capital markets transactions, including: investment grade and high yield debt offerings; initial public offerings and follow-on equity offerings; de SPAC transactions; preferred equity offerings; and liability management transactions. John also advises public companies on the securities laws aspects to public mergers and acquisitions activity. In addition to his transactional practice, John also advises public companies on their securities law compliance obligations, stock exchange listing requirements, corporate governance and other matters.

The Legal 500 US 2023 calls John an “emerging talent” and recommends him for Capital Markets: Global Offerings, Capital Markets: Debt Offerings, and Capital Markets: High-Yield Debt Offerings. The IFLR1000 guide ranks John as a “Rising Star” for Capital Markets in the United States for both 2021 and 2022. John is also named a “Rising Star” in the Americas for Capital Markets in Euromoney’s Expert Guide's Rising Stars 2021 and 2022. He was shortlisted for Euromoney’s 2020 Rising Star Awards for the Americas in the Capital Markets category.

John has been published by the American Bar Association, the International Financial Law Review and LexisNexis on capital markets and securities law topics. He is a co-author of A Deep Dive Into Capital Raising Alternatives (2020), published by the International Financial Law Review.

In his prior roles, John has served both as in-house counsel at a major investment bank, as well as a capital markets attorney for a major, full service law firm, both located in New York.

John received his JD from Vanderbilt University Law School, his MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science and his AB from Washington University in St. Louis. John is admitted to practice in the states of New York, and Illinois.
