Dusseldorf/Frankfurt am Main – Mayer Brown senior counsel Friedrich Merz, was elected as chairman of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party last week.

As a result of Friedrich Merz’s election, his bar admission and ability to practice law are suspended. He is a former senior counsel in Mayer Brown’s Dusseldorf office, where he advised clients on corporate matters, M&A transactions, compliance, banking and finance in the past nine years.
