Mayer Brown JSM has won the award for “Innovation in the Business of Law (Internationally Headquartered Law Firms)” at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Asia-Pacific 2016. The prize was awarded for the firm’s association with Jingtian & Gongcheng in Hong Kong.
"We are honored with this recognition. It validates our decision to form an association with Jingtian & Gongcheng, one of China’s leading ‘Red Circle’ law firms, and further reaffirms our commitment to China," said Terence Tung, senior partner of Mayer Brown JSM. "I am very proud of the team's commitment in driving this initiative and all the hard work put into making the association work."
"We are thrilled to be receiving this prestigious award. Our association with Jingtian & Gongcheng last year was the first of its kind between a leading international business law firm and an elite Chinese law firm," said Elaine Lo, head of the firm’s China practice and former Asia Chair and senior partner of Mayer Brown JSM. “The association is a key component of Mayer Brown’s global strategy, allowing us to serve an expanded pool of Chinese clients and provide added value to our multinational clients’ business transactions in mainland China.”
Formalized on 31 August 2015, the association allows Mayer Brown and Jingtian & Gongcheng to share office premises and resources in Hong Kong. It also provides for the secondment of lawyers between the firms. The two firms collaborate in business development, training and provision of services to clients.
"We are very pleased to have played a key role in winning this outstanding award from a highly regarded publication," said Zhang Hongjiu, founding partner of Jingtian & Gongcheng. “As the Financial Times recognized, the association between our firm and Mayer Brown JSM, a top-tier international business law firm, is unique and puts both firms in a stronger position to provide global and regional solutions to our clients.”
Jingtian & Gongcheng is one of the first private and independent law firm partnerships in China. Headquartered in Beijing, it is widely recognized as a leading business law firm in many practices, including capital markets, mergers & acquisitions, banking & finance, real estate and dispute resolution areas.
