The next Breakfast Club Briefing will take place on Tuesday, 14 October at 9.00 a.m. Bernadette Daley and Claire Holland will be leading a discussion on handling sickness absence in the workplace.

Sickness absence is estimated to cost the UK œ11 billion a year, with absenteeism costs running at around œ600 per employee per year and rising. However, effective management of sickness absence can help to reduce these costs, increase efficiency, promote good employer/employee relations and minimise exposure to tribunal claims. The aim of the session, as always, will be to give you practical advice on how to avoid the legal and practical pitfalls which might arise when handling sickness absence.

The discussion will be based around case studies on sickness absence. However, Bernadette and Claire are more than happy to address any specific issues you may have. If there is a particular aspect of handling sickness absence which you would like to be discussed, please email your questions to me at and I will pass them on to the speakers.
