The two-day programme will cover viewpoints of experienced plaintiff and defence class action lawyers. It will give insights into class action litigation in the US, in Europe and in various jurisdictions. Commentators will cover the challenges confronting defendants faced with cross-border mass litigation and offer their views as to whether and how class actions serve a societally beneficial purpose as well as discussing class action procedures. The seminar will address different types of class actions such a antitrust class actions and securities litigation in the capital markets battleground. Topics such as the role of liability insurers in mass litigation scenarios and the impact of bankruptcy on pending class actions will be presented by recognized lawyers in this area.
Dr. Mark C. Hilgard, partner in Mayer Brown's Frankfurt office, Chairman Regional Chapter Rhein-Main and Chairman Corporate and Business Law Committee, American Chamber of Commerce in Germany, will chair and moderate the seminar on March 12th and March 13th.
Marc R. Cohen, partner in Mayer Brown's Washington office, will speak on "International Human Rights Class Actions" as part of the session "Class Actions in America" on March 12th.
Dr. Jan Kraayvanger, partner in Mayer Brown's Frankfurt office, will speak on "The Perspective of a Defence Lawyer" as part of the session "Class Actions European Style" on March 12th.
Mayer Brown will co-sponsor the event and open the seminar with a cocktail reception on Thursday evening.
