A Practical Guide for Global Employers: The European Rules on Dealing with Employees When Business Changes — Anticipating the Pitfalls

Mayer Brown is pleased to announce the fourth program in our webinar series, Global Strategies: Doing Business Internationally. Focusing on the challenges and issues companies face when conducting business internationally, each session will feature a discussion of issues relevant to companies conducting business in countries around the globe.

Please join us on March 30, 2011, as Mayer Brown partners Marcia Goodman, Nick Robertson, Laurence Dumure Lambert and Guido Zeppenfeld — representing our Employment Practices in the US, UK, France and Germany — provide practical guidance on the issues related to European rules on transferring employees from one corporate unit to another. The main points to be considered include:

  • The right for a workforce to transfer with a business being sold or outsourced;
  • The obligations to consult the workforce before business decisions are taken;
  • The protection given to employees who transfer with the business; and
  • The process for changing terms of employment for a transferring workforce.

The program will focus on the similar approaches taken in Europe to resolving several key issues — with a focus on the United Kingdom, France and Germany — but will also highlight the differences between the various approaches.
