The European Commission has launched a consultation on Capital Markets Union (CMU) that offers interested parties a real opportunity to shape CMU. The consultation, which closes on May 13, 2015, is accompanied by two related consultations—one on high-quality securitizations and the other on a review of the Prospectus Directive—that identify possible, and relatively short-term, action points.
The ambitious objective is to create a liquid, transparent, integrated and well–regulated single capital market in the EU by 2019. The hoped-for result of CMU will be increased access to funding (particularly for SMEs), reduced reliance on bank funding, increased third-country investment into the EU, enhanced financial stability (by diversifying the sources of funding) and, ultimately, a boost to jobs and the EU economy.
This teleconference will examine the Commission's objectives and explore some of the obstacles and challenges to the creation of CMU.
