Mayer Brown announced today that leading finance lawyer Matthew D. O’Meara has joined the firm in Chicago as a partner in the Banking & Finance practice, where he will serve as the head of the firm’s global Private Credit group. Previously, Mr. O’Meara was a partner at Jones Day.
“Matt is highly regarded as a market-leading finance lawyer, and we are very excited to welcome him to the firm,” said Frederick C. Fisher, a co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Lending group. “His extensive knowledge of finance markets and exceptional reputation, as well as his strong relationships with numerous financial institutions and alternative credit providers, will deepen and expand our finance offerings. His experience further expands Mayer Brown’s lending capabilities, a core component of our global Banking & Finance practice.”
Mr. O’Meara has more than 20 years of experience representing clients in complex debt financing transactions, with a focus on domestic and cross-border acquisition finance. He regularly advises clients such as asset managers, banks, finance companies, business development companies, private credit funds, institutional investors and issuers in structuring, negotiating, and documenting senior and senior-stretch loans, second lien loans, mezzanine financing, unitranche and private equity investments. In addition, he has extensive experience advising borrowers and private equity groups in senior and mezzanine financing transactions and has handled numerous workouts and restructurings for both debtors and creditors.
“Mayer Brown’s extensive finance platform, coupled with its strengths in a wide variety of complimentary practice areas, was a compelling reason to join the firm,” said Mr. O’Meara. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to further expand the firm’s banking and finance offerings and build upon Mayer Brown’s top-tier finance practice.”
“Matt’s arrival furthers the continued growth of the finance practice, and his experience will enhance our ability to serve numerous clients, including private credit funds, in Chicago and around the world,” added Rebecca Eisner, the partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Chicago office.
Mr. O’Meara earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Loyola University Chicago. He has spoken and written extensively on the global loan market and intercreditor issues.
