For the first time, the Mexican Ministry of Energy will tender a private transmission line, with an approximate investment of US$1.1 billion, that will connect the isolated system of Baja California with the National Interconnected System. Among other benefits, the interconnection of these systems will ensure energy availability in the Baja California peninsula, strengthen the energy exchange with North America and allow the integration of renewable energy in the region. The formal call will be launched with the first draft of the bidding terms and contract in January 2018, the proposals will be presented in July and the bid decision will be announced in September.
