The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Board) is seeking public comment on two important documents with implications for certain insurance companies. One is an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) on capital standards for systemically important insurers (SIIs) and insurers subject to the Board’s supervision as a result of their ownership of a federally insured bank or thrift (Non-SIIs). The other is a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPR) to establish enhanced prudential standards for SIIs. This Legal Update summarizes the proposed rules and identifies some of the key issues raised by the Board's proposals.
