In 2011, the US Environmental Protection Agency released an ambitious agency initiative that the agency refers to as its “roadmap” for infusing the concept of “Environmental Justice” throughout all the agency’s programs, policies and activities. The program is in reaction to Executive Order 12,898, which calls for all federal agencies to identify and address certain agency programs, policies and activities that might have disproportionately high and adverse human health or environmental effects on minority populations and low-income populations. We review some of the efforts that have been taken and offer suggestions for companies that may be affected.
