On November 5, 2011, Mayer Brown lawyers teamed up with attorneys from AT&T to participate in Wills for Heroes, a program in which they provided pro bono assistance to Chicago’s police officers and their spouses in drafting wills and powers of attorney.
Mayer Brown hosted a training session for the event, where the volunteers were instructed in how to use the planning software that was donated by AT&T and how to prepare the documentation and conduct the interviews with the officers.
The event was held at Chicago Police Headquarters, where more than 50 lawyers from Mayer Brown and AT&T spent the day helping approximately 130 officers. The value of this service to Chicago’s hometown heroes is evident—there are approximately 1,000 officers on the waiting list. The initiative was led by Mayer Brown litigation partner Mike Gill and Marc Kadish, the firm’s Director of Pro Bono Activities & Litigation Training.
