Mayer Brown has received the LatinoJustice PRLDEF Cesar A. Perales Award for our work with the organization’s Education Division on the annual “How to Succeed in Law School” program.
For the past 14 years, Mayer Brown and LatinoJustice PRLDEF have partnered to host a group of 50 to 90 students in the New York City area who are about to enter law school. Via panel presentations and discussions with attorneys, professors and current law students, the “How to Succeed in Law School” program is intended to provide students who are about to enter law school with some of the basic, fundamental background and knowledge that will help them to thrive.
The program features presentations on topics such as case briefing, outlining, exam preparation and test-taking, as well as a discussion with law students providing practical tips for success. The program is a key pipeline initiative for the firm and exemplifies our goal of increasing the pool of diverse candidates in the legal profession and of providing individuals with early support and guidance that we believe contributes to success.
The program was developed largely through the efforts of Will Malpica, a LatinoJustice PRLDEF Board Member and former Mayer Brown associate, who is now a Senior Vice President at Royal Bank of Scotland. The award was accepted by Richard A. Spehr, Partner-in-Charge of the New York office. “The pipeline and education initiatives of LatinoJustice PRLDEF are invaluable,” Rich noted, and “our collaboration with them has been extremely rewarding.”
