Mayer Brown’s Assistant Director of Pro Bono Activities, Marcia Tavares Maack, moderated and presented at the “Pro Bono & The Legal Profession: Strengthening Access to Justice” conference organized by the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice of the New York City Bar and Fundación Pro Bono Chile. The conference, which was held from April 6 to April 8, 2011 in Santiago, brought together more than 250 lawyers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, the United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Over the course of three days, the conference addressed the critical importance of access to justice in a democratic society, evaluated progress in the Americas in promoting pro bono, and exchanged ideas about the future direction of the pro bono initiative in the Americas. Marcia moderated the Chile section of the panel entitled “Strategic Dialogue by Country.” She also presented on the panel held at the Pro Bono Coordinators Roundtable, which focused on ensuring the highest quality representation in pro bono matters.
