The only method by which an employee can waive statutory claims, usually in return for favourable terms and/or payment. As some statutory rights have “qualifying periods”, (e.g. one year’s service is required before an employee has unfair dismissal rights), it may not be appropriate to use a compromise agreement where an employee has less than a year’s service.
