Mr Geys had been employed by Société Générale (the Bank) since 2005. His basic salary of £150,000 was only part of his remuneration. In addition to that, his contract contained detailed provisions for calculating his annual bonus. Any bonus would be substantially greater if he were employed until 31 December in any year.
