As part of Mayer Brown's pro bono efforts on behalf of Iraqi refugees, the firm co-sponsored the Second Annual Matthew J. Ryan Law and Public Policy Forum on April 4, 2008, at the National Press Club.  The topic this year was the Iraqi Refugee Crisis: Law, Policy and Practice.  Since the start of the Iraq war, more than two million people have fled the country, with hundreds more having been internally displaced.  The Forum brought together leading scholars, legislators, government officials and other public figures to discuss the ramifications of this humanitarian crisis.

Mayer Brown, in conjunction with the law firms of Holland & Knight and Proskauer Rose, is working with the non-profit organization "The List Project To Help Resettle Iraqi Allies" (, in an effort to resettle in the United States those Iraqi refugees who have been targeted by the insurgency because of their assistance with the U.S. military and reconstruction effort.   Over 50 attorneys in all of Mayer Brown's U.S. offices are participating in this project.
