30 January 2008 - On January 24, 2008, the US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection proposed a technical change to a longstanding interpretation of US tariff law. Without altering any tariff classifications or any tariff rates, the proposed technical change would raise the tariffs paid by many American import businesses and the costs faced by US consumers and industries that purchase imported goods. In opposing this Customs proposal, American businesses and American consumers may find common ground.
