On 25 February 2020, Hong Kong Employment Partner Hong Tran presented at a webinar session, titled “A legal update for HR practitioners and employer obligations in dealing with the novel coronavirus”, hosted by HumanResources Online, a publication focused on human resources issues.

The webinar was attended by more than 80 senior human resources executives from various sectors.

Hong kicked off the webinar by providing the latest information on COVID-19, followed by a discussion on employer obligations in the current COVID-19 situation and the relevant ordinances such as the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance and common law duty of care. The webinar concluded with a lively Q&A session, where Hong provided answers to questions such as whether it is legal to mandate staff to wear a mask, can employers direct staff to work from home, and whether an employer has to continue paying wages if a staff cannot come to work.

The webinar was very well-received by the attendees.
