Partner, TL Lim (Hong Kong) spoke on the topic "Hong Kong’s New Apology Legislation". The Legislative Council of Hong Kong has passed the Apology Bill in July 2017, meaning that apologising for something serious will not be taken as an admission of guilt or as a legal liability. The passing of the Bill makes Hong Kong the first jurisdiction in Asia to have such a law. The Secretary for Justice has appointed 1 December 2017 as the day on which the Ordinance comes into operation.

The seminar covered the rationale and the definition of “apology” under the Law, the admissibility of evidence of apology, the applicable proceedings, and explored the apology coverage which is also introduced in the US, Australia, Canada, and the UK.
