On December 2, 2016, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) announced that it will begin considering applications for a special-purpose national bank charter from fintech companies. The OCC’s announcement was accompanied by the release of “Exploring Special Purpose National Bank Charters for Fintech Companies,” a white paper providing additional details regarding this fintech bank charter. This announcement was the culmination of a lengthy period of consideration by the OCC and discussions with various stakeholders.
Please join us for our next breakfast briefing, where we will highlight the key features of this special-purpose bank charter and the related supervisory expectations, provide a high-level overview of the application and chartering process, and discuss how this charter could potentially benefit payment companies, consumer and commercial lenders and other types of technology companies. Mayer Brown partners Melanie Brody and Jeff Taft will lead the discussion.
