On April 14, 2016 Pieter de Ridder will speak on “Hybrid Mismatch Arrangements” at the Inter Pacific Bar Association 26th Annual Meeting & Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The theme of the Conference, ‘Diverse Challenges, Global Solutions’, centres on the international flavour and global nature of business transactions, which has been the catalyst for the increasing prevalence of international norms and laws and the opening up of jurisdictions with respect to trade, business and the practice of law. The Conference will explore the way in which deals are structured and issues anticipated and resolved in the light of different systems, cultures and laws in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
The theme is particularly relevant because of the ever growing number of economic blocks, international trade routes and partnerships that are developing. China’s Silk Road Economic Belt and Maritime Silk Road initiatives, the newly-formed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the emergence of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) as a viable economic block, the continuing issues over the TPPA (Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement), the synchronisation of international laws and the opening up of legal borders, are all developing themes that will result in fresh and unique challenges for businesses and investors.
