Gabriela Kennedy was invited by Aegon Group to speak at their Legal Conference held at JW Marriott on 9 September 2015. The Conference was attended by approximately 25 members of Aegon’s Legal Team from around Asia, Europe and the US.

Gabriela kicked off with an introduction to data privacy, exploring global trends in data privacy; common elements in data privacy laws moving on to the growing restrictions on cross-border data transfers and some of the compliance and operational challenges that arise from cross-border transfers. Gabriela went on to discuss in-depth, the privacy laws in Hong Kong, China, Singapore and South Korea. She explained the presence of data protection and cyber security laws in each jurisdiction, and the issues and challenges facing the insurance industry.

Gabriela concluded her presentation by going through some suggested strategic steps to address the challenges of data localisation and cross-border data transfers, and how to deal with data leakage and privacy breaches.
