Gabriela Kennedy participated in a panel discussion on “Tips on New gTLD Dispute Resolution” at a seminar organised by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre in Hong Kong on 12 January 2015. In this seminar, new gTLD Registries, IP Lawyers, domain name panelists and other insiders shared their views on various issues pertaining to the new landscape of online brand protection brought about by the launch of new gTLDs.
Gabriela’s panel, comprising of IP Lawyers, Panelists and Case officers, focused on the new gTLDs Rights Protection Mechanisms (RPMs). The discussion started with a comparison of the well-established Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) with the new RPMs namely, the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS), Post-Delegation Dispute Resolution Procedure (PDDRP) and Trademark Post-Delegation Dispute Resolution Procedure (TM- PDDRP). The panel discussion was moderated by Dennis Cai, Assistant Secretary-General of HKIAC and Secretary-General of ADNDRC.
It was a very interactive and well-received seminar attended by in-house lawyers, service providers, representatives from domain name registries and registrars, overseas delegates and representatives from the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department as well as private practice IP practitioners.
