Gabriela Kennedy delivered a seminar on “Recent Legal Developments in Mobile Payments and Stored Value Facilities” on Friday 23 January 2015 to members and partner companies of Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC), many of them SMEs in the technology sector. This event was the sixth in a series of IP, Data Privacy and Technology seminars that our IP & TMT team is delivering to HKSTPC.
Following a welcome speech by Mr Anthony Kwong, Assistant Manager of Industry & University Collaboration, Business Development and Technology Support of HKSTPC, Gabriela kicked off the seminar with an introduction to Mobile Payments including transaction trends globally over the past year and also regionally. The team then elaborated on Stored Value facilities ("SVF") and Retail Payment Systems ("RPS") and the current and proposed changes to the regulatory regime in Hong Kong. Gabriela wrapped up the seminar with remarks on Near Field Communication ("NFC") best practices in Hong Kong followed by a Q&A session.
