Jeffrey Strauss has a general business litigation practice, with a strong emphasis on telecommunications.  In a thirty-year career, he has represented clients in “bet-the-company” securities fraud and accounting malpractice cases, as well as in litigation concerning changes in corporate control, product liability issues, bankruptcy reorganizations, shareholder disputes and related matters.

Jeff has also advised senior management and boards of directors concerning corporate control transactions, including tender offers, mergers and acquisitions, proxy fights and leveraged buyouts.  He provides guidance on corporate and fiduciary questions arising in the sales and purchases of public and private businesses, as well as on general corporate and securities law questions, including disclosure issues, the duties of boards of directors and the responsibilities of parent corporations for the liabilities of their subsidiaries and affiliates.

Jeff has been involved in two major pro bono projects: the challenge to the government’s detention policies at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and more recently, a nationwide effort to reform the capital defense system in states that still impose the death penalty.

Jeff joined Mayer Brown in 1981 and was a partner from 1988 to 2007 before assuming his current status as counsel.
