Ryota Nishikawa is an associate in the Intellectual Property & IT Group as well as the Technology Transactions and Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practices of the London office of Mayer Brown.

Ryota advises clients on data protection, data privacy, cyber security and intellectual property matters within a broad range of sectors. On data protection and cybersecurity matters, Ryota has experience in advising clients on:

  • Responding to cybersecurity incidents and complying with requirements to notify authorities and affected individuals in multiple jurisdictions where personal data has been lost.
  • The applicability of UK and European data protection laws, including the Data Protection Act and the GDPR to the activities of international clients and the steps required to comply with those laws.
  • Using personal data in the context of facial recognition technology, connected vehicles and information of things.
  • The required and appropriate measures to take when sharing personal data with third party partners and service providers, including in cross-border contexts.
  • The development and negotiation of data processing agreements and data protection provisions within service agreements.
  • The creation of procedures and policies that enable multinational companies to comply with UK and European data protection laws.

Ryota joined Mayer Brown in 2015 and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice from the University of Oxford.
