Helen Kerr is a senior associate in the Professional Risks and Insurance practice of the London office. She joined Mayer Brown in 2019 having previously worked for another international law firm.
Helen’s practice focuses on defending claims against professionals including insolvency practitioners, solicitors, barristers, accountants and valuers. She is experienced in dealing with complex, high-value claims and in advising on the merits of a claim as well as short-term and long-term strategy. Helen is an experienced trial lawyer, having recently worked on two large claims against professionals which reached trial in 2020 (One Blackfriars Limited (In Liquidation)) and 2021 (McClean v ATQC). She has significant knowledge of professional negligence claims involving tax advice and valuation issues.
Helen is also experienced in advising clients at every stage of the litigation process including in the pre-court action phases and in ADR processes and techniques, including mediations (both virtually and in person).
Helen has also acted for professional firms in the context of regulatory investigations and disciplinary proceedings, including successfully defending solicitors in a high-profile case before the SDT. She also advises insurers in relation to policy coverage issues and disputes arising under PI, FI and D&O policies.
Helen regularly presents to professional services firms and their insurers about topical legal and risk management issues.
