Dewey Kang is an Intellectual Property associate in Mayer Brown’s New York office. Dewey focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and transactional matters involving a diverse array of technologies and industries including Wi-Fi, LTE 4G, wireless transmissions by smart meters and entertainment devices, user interface navigation in iOS and Android devices, lithium-ion technology, renewable energy technology, telecom, networking, data encryption, biotechnology, and blockchain.
Dewey’s background in organic chemistry, medical research, and technology enables him to approach complex technical issues at multidisciplinary analytical angles, and further allows him to provide assistance for clients with wide range of patent portfolios ranging from general technology to biotechnology. His extensive experience in advising a number of early-stage companies across business, strategic investment, technology, and IP issues, allows him to approach issues uniquely on multidimensional levels to provide advices that are centered on the success of the client’s business goals.
Prior to and throughout law school, Dewey has participated in an extensive number of mobile and desktop software QA projects; mobile application and web development with special focus on UI/UX development; and provided consultations for startups across a broad range of topics including developing strategies for growth both in technical R&D and investments. Dewey also worked through college as student leader of the Information Technology Department, overseeing all IT matters across campus. Furthermore, Dewey was a medical researcher at the Department of Neurosurgery at Yale School of Medicine, where he conducted neurobiological and neurochemical studies. His work is published in leading medical journals on studies involving the human epileptogenic tissue and neuropathological effects of explosive blast-induced brain injuries.
Dewey is currently on secondment to BNY Mellon where he serves as legal counsel to the Technology and Intellectual Property Group.
