Joyce Jacobsen is a partner in the Maritime Law practice of Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown in the Rio de Janeiro office.
Joyce advises national and international companies on issues related to the shipping, oil and gas and infrastructure sectors, with particular focus on contractual, regulatory, and transactional matters.
She has extensive experience in the oil and gas and energy projects involving vessels and offshore terminals. Her practice includes LNG to Power projects, floating production storage and offloading units (FPSO), drilling rigs and supply/construction vessels. Joyce also has extensive experience in litigations involving maritime law matters and contractual matters relating to charter and operations of production and drilling units.
- Advised BW Offshore in connection with the incident on board the FPSO Cidade de São Mateus operating offshore Brazil. The advice included assistance in regulatory, contractual and contentious matters arising out of the accident, such as assistance in the defense against the penalties applied by ANP in connection with the accident, discussions with ANP to obtain authorizations for disconnection of the unit, as well as negotiations with Petrobras regarding the emergency response costs.
- Advised several shipowners in tenders held by Petrobras for the charter and operation of FPSOs, drilling units and support vessels.
- Advised MODEC in the lawsuit against Petrobras to avoid the deduction of contractual penalties from the receivables due under the service contract for the operation of the FPSO Cidade de Campos de Goytacazes.
