Christy Freer is a Banking & Finance counsel in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office. Christy focuses her practice on representing issuers, borrowers, underwriters and commercial banks in a wide variety of financing facilities backed by auto and equipment loans and leases, mortgages and credit card receivables in the public and private markets. She also routinely advises clients in connection with industry regulatory developments and proposals, and is part of the firm’s global IBOR Transition Task Force.
Christy is widely regarded as a trusted business partner and efficient problem solver, who leverages her unique experience both as in-house counsel and in private practice to anticipate and address client needs.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Christy was a senior director and associate general counsel at Capital One Financial Corporation, where she led the legal team covering all corporate treasury activities. In her in-house role, Christy managed a diverse mix of capital markets funding platforms, including unsecured transactions and securitization programs backed by card, auto and mortgage assets and related regulatory and compliance considerations. She also covered derivatives and liability management transactions, and worked closely with her colleagues on capital markets-focused M&A as well as company disclosure and governance matters as a trusted advisor. Before joining Capital One, Christy was a senior associate in the Washington, DC office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where she represented issuers and underwriters in a broad array of asset-backed financing transactions in the public and private markets, including assisting clients with workouts, restructurings, TALF and other government programs during the 2008 financial crisis.
