Mayer Brown has received Lawyers for Good Government’s (L4GG) 2023 “Outstanding Pro Bono Partner Award.” The firm was recognized for its contributions to “mobilizing lawyers for social justice” and “ensuring equal justice for all,” according to the organization.

In 2020, Mayer Brown launched its Project Equity initiative to ignite the firm’s engagement on issues of racial and social justice and combat systemic racism. Through its partnership with L4GG’s Lawyers for Racial Justice initiative, the firm collaborated on a “Police in Schools” report, which scrutinizes state funding of police in schools. The report includes comprehensive state-specific findings on how school resource officers are protected by the law when they disproportionately target and harm students of color—further exacerbating the school-to-prison pipeline.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by L4GG for our commitment to addressing racial and social justice issues to drive systemic change,” said Marcia Maack, Mayer Brown’s global director of pro bono.

“What sets Mayer Brown apart is not just their legal prowess but their commitment to driving forward racial justice," said Traci Feit Love, L4GG’s founder and executive director. "Given this year’s [US Pro Bono Week] theme, ‘Voices of Democracy: Ensuring Justice for All’, their dedicated efforts to highlight systemic imbalances, such as those faced by students of color, align directly with the broader call for true democracy. They are genuine collaborators who believe in the strength of collective action.”

Mayer Brown also collaborated with L4GG in 2022 in authoring a report on state-level access to gender-affirming care. The firm is also leading an initiative with L4GG and other firms, aiming to assist a group of approximately 60 Afghan women in securing Temporary Protected Status in their journey towards achieving immigration stability in the US.

L4GG is a leading nonprofit organization that mobilizes pro bono legal support for human rights programs.
