Mayer Brown announced that Financial Services Regulatory & Enforcement partner Ori Lev (Washington DC) was selected to Global Investigations Review’s (GIR) inaugural list of the 25 “most respected sanctions lawyers” in Washington DC.

Mr. Lev has extensive experience representing companies in government and internal investigations and providing regulatory advice and counsel on economic sanctions law. Prior to joining Mayer Brown in 2016, he served in leadership positions and led the Office of Enforcement at the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), where he helped draft OFAC’s Economic Sanctions Enforcement Guidelines, which set forth the framework for resolving OFAC enforcement actions. Mr. Lev also served as deputy enforcement director at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

With respect to economic sanctions, Mr. Lev has led internal investigations, assisted companies in responding to administrative subpoenas, drafted license applications and self-disclosures to OFAC, and provided advice and counsel on the applicability of OFAC regulations to a wide range of business conduct.

GIR, a news service providing comprehensive coverage of developments in international investigations, identified the 25 individuals based on a survey of dozens of practitioners who were asked which individual lawyers they would trust to represent them in a hypothetical sanctions case and why, as well as a review of publicly available information to discern which individuals are working on the most significant cases.
