To coincide with the start of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2019, Mayer Brown’s interdisciplinary team of global cybersecurity and data privacy lawyers today launched its latest handbook, “Preparing for and Responding to Cybersecurity Incidents,” which aims to serve as a resource for legal counsel and their business counterparts seeking to evaluate or strengthen their capacities to respond to cybersecurity incidents. Exemplifying the firm’s commitment to cybersecurity and privacy, this marks the fifth consecutive year Mayer Brown has launched a guide and become an official Champion of NCSAM.
The handbook, which is authored by lawyers in the firm’s global Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice, is intended to help organizations across the spectrum of cybersecurity maturity and threat profile maintain an effective incident response function. It is organized around three topics:
• Preparation for a cybersecurity incident;
• Response to such an incident; and
• Managing Legal Risks associated with incidents.
According to Raj De, leader of Mayer Brown’s global Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice and former General Counsel of the National Security Agency, “Cybersecurity incident response continues to grow in complexity and consequence for today’s businesses. An effective, legally defensible response to a cybersecurity incident should be tailored to the unique features of the incident, the corresponding legal and business risks, and the company’s culture. As a Champion of NCSAM, we are excited to release our newest guide to help in-house counsel, executives and other stakeholders understand these challenges as they continue to hone their incident response capabilities.”
