Mayer Brown, along with partner Brian Massengill (Chicago), received the John Howard Association (JHA)’s 2019 “Partnership Award” for the firm’s work with JHA in criminal justice reform.

Since 2014, Mayer Brown has helped preserve the confidentiality of JHA’s communications with inmates and provided legal advice in various matters, including assisting with subpoena responses and deposition testimony. Mr. Massengill, a co-leader of the firm’s Professional Liability practice group, has spearheaded the firm’s pro bono efforts.

Through its pro bono program, Mayer Brown has been involved in criminal justice reform efforts for many years, including in the areas of reentry, sentencing, wrongful conviction and police accountability.
