Mayer Brown announced that Louis Chiappetta has joined its global Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Insolvency (RBI) practice as a resident partner in Chicago. Previously, Mr. Chiappetta was at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

“The addition of Louis is the result of a concerted effort to continue to grow our RBI practice, particularly with respect to company-side work and cross-border insolvencies,” said Brian Trust, a co-leader of the RBI practice at Mayer Brown. “Louis has a stellar reputation in the restructuring community, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm as we continue this strong growth trajectory.“

Mr. Chiappetta focuses his practice primarily on troubled company mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and financing transactions — particularly those including balance sheet, environmental, labor and litigation issues. Mr. Chiappetta has significant expertise representing board members, debtors, creditors, bondholders, and equity security holders in all transactional and litigation aspects of bankruptcy cases. Mr. Chiappetta also represents lenders and borrowers in out-of-court operational and financial restructuring matters and has represented various clients with respect to debtor-in-possession financing and cash collateral agreements, sales of assets in bankruptcy, reorganization plan structuring and confirmations, multinational insolvency proceedings, motions for relief from the automatic stay, dischargeability litigation, fraudulent conveyance and preference litigation, and other issues.

“I was drawn to Mayer Brown’s strategic priority to enhance its RBI practice and the opportunity to work with the firm’s top-tier, market leading lawyers,” said Mr. Chiappetta. “I am thrilled to join the team and leverage my experience representing both debtors and creditors in all aspects of in-court and out of court operational and financial restructurings.”

“Coming so soon after Adam Paul joined the firm, Louis’ arrival further supports our clients’ needs for strong restructuring capabilities in Chicago and globally,” said Britt Miller, the managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Chicago office. “I’m confident that our clients will benefit immediately from his experience.”

Mr. Chiappetta joins shortly after Adam Paul’s arrival in Chicago earlier in August. Mr. Paul is a partner who serves as a co-leader of the firm-wide RBI practice.
