Mayer Brown announced that partners David Carpenter and Paul de Bernier were named to India Business Law Journal’s “International A-List.” This recognition honors the top 100 India-focused legal professionals who have developed strategies to serve clients in India without having a physical presence on the ground.

To select the lawyers on the “International A-List,” India Business Law Journal asked lawyers at Indian law firms and India-focused in-house counsel around the world to nominate lawyers that they consider to be among the top legal experts for advising on the international aspects of India-related matters.

Mr. Carpenter is the practice leader for Mayer Brown’s New York Corporate & Securities practice. He focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and other corporate transactions, including divestitures, joint ventures and strategic alliances with particular emphasis on cross-border transactions. Mr. Carpenter co-leads Mayer Brown’s India practice group, which has been active in representing international clients in capital markets and investment activities in India and India-based clients in their outbound M&A and other strategic initiatives for more than a decade.

Mr. de Bernier is the office practice leader in Los Angeles for Mayer Brown’s Corporate & Securities practice. Mr. de Bernier co-leads the firm’s India practice. His practice focuses on M&A, capital markets and other corporate transactions, including joint ventures, private equity, venture capital, technology licensing and commercial transactions. Mr. de Bernier regularly advises US and non-US companies on US and cross-border investments and transactions, including investments by Indian companies into California and other parts of the US. He also advises on numerous investment sectors, including technology, cleantech, media and entertainment and food and beverage. Additionally, Mr. de Bernier grew up in India, speaks Hindi and spent seven years in Mayer Brown’s London office.
