For the sixth consecutive year, Mayer Brown and Tauil & Chequer Advogados (T&C), in association with Mayer Brown, have been named “Recommended Firms” in the 2019 edition of the Latin Lawyer 250, the definitive guide to the leading business law firms of Latin America. The guide is based on editorial research involving visits to law firms and face-to-face interviews with clients in 18 Latin American countries, as well as in the United States, Canada and Europe; thousands of questionnaires completed by corporate counsel; and a poll of legal practitioners operating in Latin America.

Mayer Brown was listed as a “Recommended Firm” in the International law firm category. Latin Lawyer said Mayer Brown continued to concentrate on what it knows best in Latin America: project finance, energy, M&A and banking and finance. The publication said, “this focus has afforded the team a deep knowledge of the region’s energy and infrastructure sectors and made for effective synergies.” Since the opening of Mayer Brown’s Mexico City office in 2015, the publication said, it has expanded its team of lawyers who also do renewables, infrastructure and projects work. The publication also noted that Mayer Brown’s “impressive talent and client relationships ensure it remains a key player in the region, and provide a good base for future growth.”

T&C was listed as a “Recommended Firm” in the Brazil law firm category. With its robust lateral hiring, Latin Lawyer said that “no other Brazilian firm has grown as aggressively or as assuredly as this in the past few years.” T&C lawyers are attracted not only by higher gains but “by the prospect of developing an international career.” Latin Lawyer also noted that in 2018, T&C relocated to a new office in Rio de Janeiro office in a greener and more energy-efficient building. The publication said, “As the city’s oil and gas industry gears up for a renaissance, this firm is more ready than ever to fight for the big ticket work.”
