Mayer Brown announced that two of the firm’s partners have been named 2018 “Rising Stars” by Law360: White Collar Defense & Compliance partner Matthew J. Alexander and Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Paul Hughes (both Washington DC). This annual recognition honors litigators and dealmakers under 40 “whose legal accomplishments transcend their age,” the publication said.
Matt Alexander: Having successfully guided several of the world’s largest multinational corporations through government and multilateral development bank investigations and enforcement proceedings, including Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Bank Secrecy Act investigations, Mr. Alexander earned a spot as one of five white collar attorneys under 40 recognized by Law360 (view article).
Paul Hughes: For the second year in a row, Law360 selected Mr. Hughes an Appellate "Rising Star" (view article). The publication highlighted Mr. Hughes’ argument and unanimous win in the US Supreme Court, securing a years-in-the-making opinion that changed the rules for discharging debts. It also described Mr. Hughes’ successful campaign to have the US Supreme Court reverse a “drastic” Sixth Circuit ruling that erroneously restricted civil rights claims.
