Mayer Brown announced today that noted commercial litigator Jon C. Rice has joined the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice as a partner in Houston. Mr. Rice joins from Norton Rose Fulbright in Houston.

“Jon is highly regarded in the market for his considerable experience in commercial litigation, including corporate management liability, securities, and insurance disputes,” said Bob Harrell, a Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner in Houston. “Jon’s arrival will strengthen and add depth to our Houston office’s capabilities in those areas, as well as in patent litigation, for our clients in Texas and beyond. I am delighted to be reunited with my former colleague.”

As a commercial litigator, Mr. Rice’s experience includes resolving disputes involving virtually every type of commercial insurance policy. Mr. Rice also represents accused infringers and patent holders in intellectual property and patent litigation in Texas federal courts.

“Mayer Brown’s strong national and global presence and reputation for handling complex litigation matters, combined with its collegial culture, were integral factors in my decision to join the firm,” said Mr. Rice. “I look forward to working with Bob Harrell, supporting my new colleagues, and advising our clients who are grappling with complex commercial litigation or insurance issues.”

“Texas is one of the preeminent litigation markets in the US, and the firm is committed to growing its Houston litigation and international arbitration practice,” added Neil Wasserstrom, the partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Houston office. “Jon is a key addition as he is highly respected in the market and by clients for his strength in commercial litigation. Combined with our existing litigators, we have assembled a formidable team in this critical area, which will benefit our clients in Texas and around the world.”

Mr. Rice received a JD from University of Chicago Law School, an MA from Rice University and a BA, magna cum laude, from Southwestern University.
