Mayer Brown announced today that the firm received a “Milestone Case of the Year” award at Managing Intellectual Property’s 2018 Americas Awards for its work on behalf of Impression Products in US Supreme Court case Impression Products v. Lexmark.
Mayer Brown litigators in Washington DC represented Impression Products, a remanufacturer of printer cartridges, before the US Supreme Court in a case that reversed a 10-2 ruling by the en banc Federal Circuit on two questions regarding the patent exhaustion doctrine, finding that once a company has sold a product, it can’t dictate how it is used. The Mayer Brown team was led by partner Andy Pincus, who has appeared before High Court justices more than two dozen times, as well as partner Paul Hughes (both Washington DC).
Additionally, Mayer Brown was named a finalist in the awards’ “US – Appellate” category, and Andy Pincus was named a finalist in the “Outstanding Appellate Practitioner” category.
A 2018 Law360 “Practice Group of the Year,” the firm’s IP practice takes a multidisciplinary approach to today’s emerging issues in the development, protection and exploitation of intellectual property assets. The group is fully integrated with other practices, providing unsurpassed appellate capabilities before the federal courts, the US Supreme Court and international tribunals. Also deemed a 2018 Law360 “Practice Group of the Year,” Mayer Brown’s innovative Supreme Court & Appellate group practices at every level of the judicial system, comprised of elite lawyers transforming the legal environment and shaping law.
