Mayer Brown announced today that trial lawyer Robert Harrell has joined the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice as a partner in Houston. Previously, he was a partner with Norton Rose Fulbright in Houston, where he led that firm’s financial institutions and insurance litigation practice in the US.

“With more than three decades of experience, Bob is an uncommonly talented, nationally known business litigation trial lawyer who has tried over 50 court cases and arbitration disputes to verdict or judgment during his career,” said Michael Lackey, the leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. “Bob’s skill in handling a broad range of business litigation cases—particularly those involving corporate governance and D&O—significantly enhances Mayer Brown’s complex commercial litigation offerings while complementing the firm’s strong transactional capabilities in Houston and across the US.”

Mr. Harrell represents a wide variety of companies on business litigation matters in federal and state courts and before arbitration panels. He has represented companies in the financial, insurance, energy, manufacturing, technology and telecommunications/networking sectors in matters such as shareholder and corporate disputes, class actions, suits against directors and officers, all types of securities litigation, patent infringement and other types of intellectual property and technology disputes, complex insurance coverage disputes, RICO claims, breaches of contract and fraud. Mr. Harrell has also had an active practice representing professionals, especially attorneys, for violations of fiduciary and other professional duties.

“Mayer Brown’s global platform, deep client relationships and collaborative culture were key factors in my decision to join the firm,” said Mr. Harrell. “I intend to leverage my trial experience and work closely with the firm’s impressive transactions practices to better serve clients in lawsuits—particularly in the financial institutions/insurance and energy sectors—in Houston and elsewhere.”

Neil Wasserstrom, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Houston office, said, “Bob is highly respected in all four federal districts in Texas and across the US for his strong track record as a trial attorney. His arrival enables the Houston office to better serve current and future clients as disputes arise.”

“Bob’s exceptional insurance litigation experience is a perfect fit for Mayer Brown’s deep global capabilities in this area—a primary focus for the firm,” added William Glassey, London-based leader of Mayer Brown’s Insurance Industry Group. “His trial skills further expand the depth and breadth of our offerings for insurance companies involved in disputes around the world.”

Certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1986, Mr. Harrell is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He received a JD with honors from The University of Texas School of Law and earned a BA, summa cum laude, from The University of Texas at Austin. After graduating from law school, Mr. Harrell served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joe Ingraham, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
