Mayer Brown announced that Chicago-based Litigation & Dispute Resolution associate Nina Ruvinsky was named a 2017 “Rising Star” by the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) as part of its 18th annual Human Rights Awards, in honor of her generosity in providing high quality pro bono services to clients with complex immigration cases. This annual award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding achievements to promote, protect and advance human rights throughout the world. Ms. Ruvinsky will be honored at an awards gala in Chicago in June.

Ms. Ruvinsky works with the NIJC to provide legal representation to asylum seekers. Her clients are women who risked their lives to escape domestic abuse, gang violence and serious threats to themselves and their families.

“I see firsthand how legal representation makes all the difference in the course of my clients’ lives,” Ms. Ruvinsky said. “I am humbled by the unyielding dedication of the NIJC staff, and I’m grateful that my firm supports me in making my small contribution to this essential work.”

The NIJC, a Heartland Alliance Program, is dedicated to ensuring human rights protections and access to justice for all immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. The organization provides direct legal services to and advocates for these populations through policy reform, impact litigation and public education.
