Mayer Brown announced today that Tamer A. Soliman has joined the firm as a partner in its International Trade practice, where he will serve as the global head of its Export Controls and Economic Sanctions practice group. Mr. Soliman will be based in the firm’s Washington DC office and spend substantial time in the growing Dubai office. Previously, he was a partner at Akin Gump.

Mr. Soliman has nearly two decades of experience handling complex export control and sanctions regulatory and enforcement matters spanning multiple jurisdictions. He advises clients in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, defense, sovereign wealth and investment funds, private equity, internet technology and logistics. He is known for handling cutting-edge issues involving the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Export Administration Regulations and sanctions laws to both US and non-US entities and has successfully advised boards, audit committees and companies in high-stakes investigations and enforcement actions.

Before his time in private practice, Mr. Soliman clerked for the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division and the Criminal Division, Office of International Affairs. He is fluent in Arabic. Mr. Soliman earned his JD from the University of Virginia and received his BA with highest distinction from the University of Virginia.
