Mayer Brown announced today that partner and New York Intellectual Property practice leader Lisa Ferri was named a “Woman to Watch” by American Intellectual Property Law Association’s (AIPLA) Women in IP Committee. “Through a peer-nomination process, the Women to Watch Series strives to honor women who have created their own paths, who lead through strong examples, and who are achieving successes as a result of their choices and leadership,” according to AIPLA.
Ms. Ferri, a litigator and trial attorney with 25 years of experience, represents global pharmaceutical companies in high-stakes patent litigation before various courts throughout the country. In an interview featured in the Women in IP Law AIPLA Committee Blog, she recalled discovering an interest in IP as an associate at a large New York law firm. “When a patent litigation came into the office involving the early HIV/AIDs drug AZT in one of the first patent challenges brought under the Hatch-Waxman statutes, I jumped at the chance to work on it,” she told AIPLA. Ms. Ferri said she “enjoyed the challenge presented by the necessity to distill, for a non-technical judge or jury, the complexity of the science and substantive patent law” so much that she decided to specialize in the field.
In addition to serving as co-chair of both the firm’s global Women's Leadership Committee and the New York office’s Women’s Forum, Ms.Ferri is also an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law where she teaches patent litigation.
AIPLA’s Women in IP Law Committee focuses on developing substantive and relevant programming that focuses on and promotes women in IP law. In addition, the committee seeks to develop leadership opportunities within AIPLA for female members.
