São Paulo - Tauil & Chequer Advogados announced today the arrival of Paulo Almeida Lopes, who is joining the firm’s Corporate & Securities practice as a partner in Rio de Janeiro. Also coming to the firm is senior counsel Claudia Pitta Pinheiro, who joins Mr. Lopes in significantly enhancing the firm’s capabilities in the corporate and oil and gas sectors. Before joining, both lawyers were the founding partners of Almeida Lopes Pitta Pinheiro Advogados.

Mr. Lopes has held several high-ranking positions as a senior executive in Brazilian companies such as Raízen Group and Vale and multinational corporations like Shell Group and Billiton Group, in locations including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, London, The Hague and Houston. He has considerable experience in corporate and oil and gas matters and in structuring local and international mergers, disposals and acquisitions projects. Mr. Lopes has acted as lead counsel to a variety of large and complex projects in Brazil and abroad.

Ms. Pinheiro practiced in London, where she integrated Shell’s global antitrust team and served as its representative for Latin America. Claudia has worked as a corporate legal director and board member for companies of the Shell Group and Raízen Group in Brazil and possesses a wide range of knowledge in diverse areas of business law, most notably corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, national and international contracts, antitrust law, regulatory law, arbitration and compliance.
