Leading global law firm Mayer Brown advised Unicredit Bank AG and other banks on the issuance of a EUR 500 million Green Mortgage Pfandbrief issued by Berlin Hyp AG under its Debt Issuance Programme. The Green Mortgage Pfandbrief has a term of seven years and bears interest of 0,125 per cent.

This is the first issuance of a Green Mortgage Pfandbrief in the German market. The Green Mortgage Pfandbrief complies with the requirements of the German Pfandbrief Act while considering the Green Bond Principles who define a voluntary standard for Green Bonds.

The proceeds will be used for the financing of ecological and sustainable buildings. These buildings either have a Green Building Certificate or have been certified for energy efficiency by internationally recognized certification authorities.

A consortium of banks including Credit Agricole, DZ Bank, J.P. Morgan, LBBW and UniCredit Bank placed the Green Mortgage Pfandbrief on the market. The bond with an order book volume of EUR 2 billion was four times oversubscribed.

The Mayer Brown team included partner Dr. Jochen Seitz (lead) as well as associates Sarah Frank and Stefan Schrewe (all Banking & Finance, Frankfurt).
